9 Eye-Popping Illusions

No comment yet
We love looking at illusions that challenge our minds (and our eyes), but that doesn’t mean we can even fathom how they are created, let alone how they work. Though we love simple optical illusions, we really wanted to test ourselves by finding more challenging works of art. From a girl that spins multiple ways to a window that seems it could be on either side of the building, see if you can handle these nine tricky pictures.

Fraggle or Vase?
At first glance, you probably see an ordinary vase. However, if you look at it long enough, you can see two Fraggle-like creatures looking away from each other. Photo courtesy of Makingartfun.com.

Lightbulb
Stare at the black areas of this lightbulb for at least 30 seconds, then shift your eyes to the white areas of the screen. If all goes well, you should see the lightbulb glow. Photo courtesy of optillusions.com.

Spinning Girl
This illusion is by far the most bizarre. Start by looking at the girl’s shadow at the bottom of the image. Is she turning counterclockwise or clockwise? Photo courtesy of moillusions.com.

The Blinking Effect
Try to count the dots in the center of this diagram and your eyes will probably end up struggling with the color of each circle. Are they black, white or gray? Photo courtesy of colorcube.com.

Simultaneous Contrast
The only thing we get from these multicolored boxes is a dizzy feeling. Apparently the squares on the left sides of each image appear darker than the right. Can you tell the difference? Photo courtesy of colorcube.com.

Spinning Wheel
This may appear to be a black-and-white spinning wheel, but you’re also supposed to see different colors if you focus on it long enough… that is, if you don’t get sick first. Photo courtesy of Illusion-Optical.com.

Window
For reasons we cannot begin to explain, this window seems like it could be located on the left or right side of a building. Which do you think it is? Photo courtesy of 123opticalillusions.com.

Fear the Spin
After staring at the black dot in the center for a few seconds, it’s hard to tell exactly which way the red stripes are spinning. Photo courtesy of dailyillusions.com.

13th Man
Our initial count of these miniature men is 12, but just as soon as they slide around, a 13th man pops up. We must find out how this happens! Photo courtesy of NewOpticalIllusions.Blogspot.com.
